Course Name: Advanced Image Manipulation

Course Description:
This course is designed to further enhance the skills acquired in previous image manipulation and technology-based classes. Emphasis will be placed on advanced applications and the appropriate selection of variables for the required task. Integration of programs to achieve a required product will also be emphasized.

Course Competencies:
Create, capture, manipulate, and edit images using digital processes
Make necessary adjustments to color and contrast
Use appropriate color palettes
Analyze the requirements for a given task and assign the appropriate operating mode, resolution, and other variables
Ensure that all images are properly configured for final output
Combine images from several programs into new composite images
Use texture mapping
Prepare imagery for proofing and/or final outputting at a service bureau or other supplier
Select/apply filters and layers using appropriate menus, tools, and commands
Utilize Internet tools and technology utilizing file transfer protocols and standards
Save documents in appropriate formats utilizing appropriate compression methodologies
Pre-plan the technical and aesthetic development of images
Scan an image using a scanner and appropriate software
Acquire a still digital image using a digital camera
Use tools, menus, and keyboard commands to perform complex image selection tasks
Control image characteristics (size, mode, dpi, etc.)
Design for specific delivery platforms

Student Evaluation:
Design will be the primary criteria for grading. Appropriateness of the solution, how well it is conceived and executed will form the basis of your grade for projects.
